I am pleased to tell you how much I enjoyed the performance of Iolanthe and Patience at the Malvern Festival Theatre last week, the much, as always, was magical and the choreography first class. The clarity and enunciation of the libretto gave additional enjoyment as well as the superb voices which surely has recruited more fans for Carl Rosa.

I enclose your questionnaire.
A wonderful evening of the Iolanthe. A truly excellent production – no stupid whims of the
producer to assert himself over the audience’s enjoyment of the work. We thought such productions
had gone for ever, under the ghastly Cool Britannia!
Do please keep it up. If you could confirm that you will be returning to Bath with The Yeomen of the
Guard and when I should be grateful.
Yours faithfully,

Dear Carl Rosa |

My wife and I had the pleasure of attending your production of Iolanthe at the Theatre Royal,
Bath last Tuesday evening. How refreshing it was to have a production that would have been easily
recognised by the authors of the piece. All too often these days, in the name of improvement,
innovation and thought provocation, we are presented with a work that appears to be set in the slums
of Cairo or some equally dreary place, dressed from the reject pile from the local Oxfam shop and lit
in a manner that would do credit to a wartime blackout.
At the risk of appearing “old fashioned” I prefer your attractively staged, delightfully costumed
and beautifully lit production that gave us an evening of glorious entertainment.
Thank you all.
