Welcome to Carl Rosa Opera

Carl Rosa Opera is a unique international touring opera company, dedicated to making quality light opera accessible to a wide audience, in the English-speaking world, who would not otherwise be able to experience it.

Based near the City of London in vibrant Shoreditch, the company tours for more than twenty-four weeks across the UK every spring and autumn — our ethos having always been to inspire, entertain and educate as many people as possible through artistic excellence. Regularly invited to tour abroad, we have in the last decade (since our re-founding) also visited the USA, Australia and South Africa.

Continuing a deep seated and historic commitment to accessibility and high quality performances at affordable prices, the company as it exists today was re-launched in 1998, by the staging of Die Fledermaus, although over the past ten years we have created an individual identity through traditional productions of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas as a way of introducing audiences to an operatic style.

The Carl Rosa Opera Company is made up of over 50 musicians, singers and technicians committed to producing high quality light opera for all and bridging the perceived gap between traditional opera and popular music.
